Don't phone in, it's just for fun!

I know from the wonders of the blog back office that we get readers from all over the 'States, Australia, Indonesia, Germany, France, Denmark, Turkey and Spain and of course the UK... Well skiff fans the world over here's a Skiff related quiz for you!!
This very early 18ft SKIFF FITTING has been kindly lent to us by our neighbours here in Woodbrige - Atlantic Rigging - (2.5 and 3mm dyeform on the shelf as well as anything else you could need for your boat from 6ft to 60ft).
The question is: - What is it?!?
Put your answers on the comment page and remember - Don't phone in - it's just for fun!

  2. Hello Dave. Halyard open snatch block. The halyard was shackled on one end and then a rope taken from a cleat, over the sheave and under the cleat to give a 3:1 purchase. I had a stainless and Tufnol one on the jib halyard of my first boat, a Graduate - made by Lewmar along with the good old Novex blocks. . . Dick J

  3. That's what I think it is, but the owner says hes sure it is a mainsheet block set up so that you can throw a purchase off when it goes light! - Now I'm confused. Any other ideas? Dave

  4. It looks like a mainsheet snatch block, used mostly on the 6 & 10 foot skiffs, so as the 3 to 5 crew could go about,in the confined space.
